Year of the Fire Rooster

Year of the Fire Rooster 2017

Happy New Year! Welcome the the Year of the Fire Rooster

The Chinese New Year is next week and 2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster. The Rooster represents punctuality, as it wakes people up on time. Other traits of the Rooster include loyalty, commitment, hard work, family values and taking care of your appearance in order to create good impressions.

From a numerology point of view 2017 is a 1 year and the beginning of a new 9 year cycle. 2+0+1+7= 10  1+0=1

So don’t be surprised if you feel real shifts in your own energy, direction and what you feel drawn to. This may well include everybody’s favourite ‘change’. An outlook of curiosity, adventure and finding the fun in things will help you stay in the flow. Remember growth can only happen when we enlarge our comfort zone. It’s also worth asking yourself if you are exactly where you want to be in all aspects of your life right now. If not, change of some sort will be required. Change is only an enemy if you that’s what you decide to make it. It could just as easily become your friend on the journey.

Holistically Balanced Change 2017

If you were feeling all fired up at the beginning of the year but you’re now feeling a bit disheartened because your new years resolutions have started to wane, fear not! (Fear not, even if you weren’t all that fired up). You can choose what’s important to you at any time and act accordingly.

A year or so ago I came across the idea of having a theme for your year instead of more specific resolutions. I tried it out last year and found it a far more enjoyable experience and it really did help keep me on track over the whole year.

A theme is much broader in scope than typical resolutions. You can usually describe a theme in just one or two words. Because it is much broader, there are far more things that can be done to help keep you on theme. This makes it much easier to work with. Which means you are far more likely to make the changes and improvements you were aiming for.

For example instead of the very traditional ‘I want to/will lose weight’ a theme based around Self Care or Health would be a more positive and helpful influence over the year. There are so many things you could do to enhance your self care and/or health. They may be actions you take, mind set shifts or a combination of the two. Chances are over time you’ll find your weight starts to drop as a happy side effect.

When you’ve decided on your theme create a visual reminder for yourself. Write the theme down and stick it up somewhere you’ll see it regularly. This will give you a nudge whenever you see it and help you stay on track.

I would also add that even if you find you’ve been a bit lax, you can always get going again at any time. You can create a theme at any time. None of this is restricted to the start of the year or January. Every single moment of every single day provides an opportunity to step closer to where you want to be.
