5 Tips to Boost your Immune System

Our immune system is quite complex. It protects us from potential pathogens and keeps us healthy (all things going well). There will be times when we succumb to coughs, colds or bugs going around. When this happens it can be good to know some simple ways to boost our immune system to help with a speedy recovery.

1 – Cut out refined sugar

Sugar depletes your immunity by up to 40%. If you’re feeling under par consuming sugar won’t help the situation. Please don’t turn to artificial sweeteners as an alternative though, they have no redeeming qualities and are just plain bad for you.

2 – Tapping your thymus gland

Tapping your thymus gland (it lies just below the centre of your breast bone) can be helpful. The tapping stimulates the gland. This promotes the maturation and release of white blood cells into the blood stream thus boosting immunity.

3 – Get some rest

Give your system a chance to fight back. If you’re overdoing it, coming down with a bug can be your body’s way of making you stop and get some rest. So listen to your body and take it easy.

4 – Take a course of Echinacea and/or probiotics

Echinacea is a flower which has immunomodulating properties.Image result for echinacea You’ll find this in any good health food store. Using it in tincture form will help it get into your system faster than tablets. Our gut is closely associated with our immune system so a course of probiotics can provide additional support to both our digestion and immunity. 5 – Get some sunshine

If possible expose your skin for 15 minutes a day as this will help your body produce Vitamin D. Vitamin D is required for a healthy immune system. If getting out in some sun isn’t possible you may want to consider a Vitamin D supplement.

It’s perfectly normal to get to odd cold or bug. If however you are constantly catching bugs and viruses chances are your immune system is run down and in need of extra support to bring it back to full strength. This is an area I can help with, to find out more get in contact.

If you suffer from an autoimmune condition or are immune suppressed always consult your doctor before making changes to support your immune system.
